BLOGGING WITH HAWKKANSAS STATE It was quite a treat to roll into work Sunday and see the new indoor bubble up. For guys like Coach Hagan and Coach Cabral, it was especially pleasing as they have waited a long time for such a much needed facility. Thanks to the generosity of several people we were able to finally bring an indoor practice facility to Colorado. The falls are generally pretty mild here, so we hope that we don’t have to use it much during the season. However, last year we did have snow on the ground while practicing for Oklahoma, so you never know. The big benefit will be the ability to have a much better winter conditioning program and have a place where our guys can go to get some skill work (7 on 7) done when weather is bad. An added plus will be a place where the other ICA and club sports can go to get some work in as well. It is a great community resource for all outdoor sports that need a place to go when weather prevents them from being outside. A big thank you to the regents, Hank Brown, Bud Peterson, Mike Bohn, and the people who generously donated for the project. If you could have seen the looks on the players faces, it was well worth it. For some it was like a holiday present. Improvements to Colorado Football have been needed for some time. The addition of the improved locker room, training table, and indoor practice area improve performance, attitude, and recruiting. We need to continue the drive to update our entire athletic arena. The basketball program is getting going on locker room, practice area, and Coors event updates. The Track program hosts the Big XII championships this year and needs major renovation. My hope is that as we continue to build and rebuild relationships with the entire campus community we are able to continue the upward trend. Dal Ward needs to be expanded and upgraded. We have plans to have the most outstanding academic and personal development program in the nation. It will take additional space and resources to move in that direction. On to Kansas State, a great team. Ron Prince is a good man and coach. I like the way he coaches and his team plays. It will be a big test on the road. Speaking of which it was great to see the following in Texas, many alums and families present, Let’s get the same in Kansas Saturday! Books? Let’s see……If you have not read Phil Jackson’s Sacred Hoops, do it. My favorite resource for what “Team” and “Winning” is all about. Music? Gotta go with some Jerry Jeff Walker. No not Mr. Bojangles! The guy is an awesome story teller. Simple reflections about a complex life- great stuff! Movies? Go with Searching for Bobby Fischer. A great take on parents, coaches, and kids in competition. Rocktober baby – Go Rockies! Ease up on the Denver Broncos- they have one of the great coaches in the game and a solid organization. I’ll bet you have had some rough spots in your life too, that’s when people need the most support. Be strong when it’s easy to be weak. The Bronc’s will get through it. Enjoy the fall! Go Buffs!
